It's official, I'm an Art Nerd

Seriously I had a super emotional day today. This is super nerdy but I have an art crush on Pablo Picasso. I have now for a number of years. In fact my students have told their families that he is my favorite and parents tell me stories about what their kids have learned about Picasso through me. I'm not sure if it's his variety, his color choice, his shock value or his ability to make profound statements in such simple yet abstract forms that has captured my interest. Today I went to the Reina Sofia, Madrid's largest art museum filled with it's most modern artwork. I was on a mission to find my "favorite" Mr. Picasso. I went straight to his floor and skipped over everything else until I found his work. Let me just say- his work is a thousand times more powerful, more intriguing and more attractive in person. His most famous painting in Spain is La Guernica. It is enormous, a violent rendition of the effects of war on society. Seriously I was teary eyed as I sat and admired this painting. I'm definitely going to Barcelona so I can visit his house and see more of his artwork. Emily Ericson= ART NERD.
