Mundanes of Motherhood

So I have never really been too faithful about my blogging.  If you scroll through my posts you will immediately see what I mean.  I wrote for a while one summer when I lived in Spain and have done a few posts since of meeting my husband and the birth of my son, who is now 2. We just gave birth to my daughter and I've been thinking a lot about the mundane of being a stay at home mom. There is nothing more rewarding yet more exhausting at the same time.

My entire life I have dreamt of being a mom.  Looking back over the past two year of living that dream, motherhood is nothing like I imagined!  It is amazing, messy, constant, tiresome but has changed me forever.  

I want to get back into writing just for myself, if anyone reads it or is motivated by what I have to say- even better.  I plan to write one if not more FAVORITE moments from each day.  Whether they have to do with my children, family or something completely removed. Sometimes to be positive we have to look for it, acknowledge it and then share it.   

We'll see what happens- could be another two years before I write but hope that my conscious effort to find happiness and share it will allow me to be a better mother and wife.  Isn't that what we're all striving for anyways?

The greatest women I know

Yesterday we blessed Nixon.  Talk about a long awaited moment!  It was so amazing to see his dad bless him and his future endeavors- so sweet to catch a glimpse of his life.  I especially loved hearing that he would be a great example to his siblings.  I was overwhelmed by the love and support of family on this special day and so grateful for the wonderful examples we have in our lives.  Two of those are my sweet mom and dear grandma.  They are the greatest examples of motherhood and finding joy in womanhood.  They are selfless, caring examples of kindness and focusing on family first.  I hope to continue to look to their examples and follow their legacy of leadership. 

Dressing up

I don't think you're ever too old to dress up but what's even more fun is dressing your kids up!  I had so much fun making this elephant costume and watching Nixon's expressions each time I tried to put him in it.  Here's to dressing up!

Pine Needles

I love to sew and finding stores with bright trending fabrics are sometimes hard to find.  Pine Needles at Gardner Village has never disappointed in fact I have never left the store without a bag full of fabric and even patterns- which is new for me because usually I just make them up myself.  If you are quilting, decorating or just looking for some fun fabrics for sewing- I recommend a visit to Gardner Village!

Baby Lit Books

Being a teacher I'm obsessed with books!  I have shelves, baskets and closets full of them.  Even though my baby is only two months old we read books every day.  He loves the colors and the starting to see the pictures.  I recently stumbled across these amazing baby lit books.  Classics like Anna Karenina, Romeo and Juliet, Sense and Sensibility and Moby Dick are just a few of the cute board books they carry.  They are full of bright colors, modern illustrations and even educational. I may even have gone overboard on just how many I have.  Each book has a different focus- Sherlock Holmes is all about sounds, Dracula is a counting primer and Alice in Wonderland focuses on colors.  With my educational background I love seeing literature that not only is aesthetically pleasing to the eye but also reinforces and promotes learning.  I would recommend filling your shelves, baskets and closets with these adorable board books.  Available at Babinski Baby in Foothill or Sandy.

The Hogle Zoo

I don't think you're ever too old to enjoy the zoo.  Today I took Nixon for the second time.  He loved being outside and enjoyed the hours spent admiring the animals and environment.  I can't wait to introduce him to all of the animals and for that moment when he realizes that the animals are real.  Favorites!

Creative Outlets

So being home with Nixon has gifted me a few extra hours of free time that I have never before had.  I've found myself making and researching manipulatives that will prepare him for the educational experience that awaits him.  This is my latest design, an animal alphabet book.  I was inspired by a quilt I saw and got a little carried away and made and A-Z.  Nixon still doesn't appreciate it yet but did look at the colorful pages rather than my face today.  I've already started another one- this one is a page for every month.
